Veterans win £3000 grant from charity

PUPILS from an Edinburgh school have secured £3000 for the Scottish Veterans Residence.

The S3 pupils from George Heriot's School secured the charity grant through the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI).

The scheme, managed and principally funded by the Wood Family Trust, aims to create the next generation of philanthropists.

More than 40 schools across the country take part in the project and pupils work in teams to identify and research a local charity they would like to support before making a presentation to compete for a 3000 grant.

The grant has gone towards kitting the gym out at the Scottish Veterans residence with new equipment.

Pupil Louise Frame said: "Now I really see the benefit of helping other people and want to carry on."
