US treasury chief has kidney stone

UNITED States treasury secretary Timothy Geithner was last night admitted to hospital in Washington for "minor" surgery to deal with a kidney stone.

A treasury spokesman said Mr Geithner began experiencing severe pain during the night. Mr Geithner is expected to be back at work on Monday.
