Urine yob refused to accept he did wrong

A MAN who urinated by a war memorial during a pub crawl has spent 46 days in prison after refusing to accept he had done anything wrong.

Nicholas Mulligan, 35, was locked up for nearly two months after refusing to carry out the community service imposed by a sheriff.

Perth Sheriff Court was told yesterday that Mulligan had failed to complete the 160 hours community service imposed upon him last year at the court.

The court was told that Mulligan felt the sentence was "harsh".

Rosemary Scott, defending, said Mulligan had learned his lesson after being arrested for breaching the court order twice and spending a total of 46 days on remand.

Sheriff Robert McCreadie said: "He has committed a despicable offence. Some people would consider that behaviour to be desecration of a war memorial.

"People would find that extremely distressing if they had seen it.

"You need to understand the respect that needs to be given to those who fall in wars.

"It is not enough for you to say you were not aware it was a war memorial. You ought to have been aware that's what it was, but you were not because of the amount of drink you had taken. It is desecration."
