Uptake of vaccine high

CHILDREN across the Lothians have one of the highest vaccine uptakes in the country, the health board has said.

Recent figures show nearly every youngster has received jabs for illnesses like tetanus, whooping cough, polio and diphtheria.

Health chiefs are now keen that everyone who received an initial inoculation returns for a second if it is necessary.

Dr Dermot Gorman, a public health consultant for NHS Lothian, said: "These inoculations are enormously important and prevent very serious illnesses."
