Upgrade for schools' fire safety setups

A PROJECT to upgrade fire safety systems across schools in Edinburgh is set to go ahead.

The 600,000 project will involve the installation or replacement of fire and smoke doors, new fire alarm systems, emergency and lighting systems in 18 schools across the Capital.

New sprinkler systems and magnetic hold-open devices for doors, which close to stop the spread of fire, will also be among the improvements.

Other Edinburgh City Council properties throughout the city will also undergo upgrades to bolster fire prevention and containment.

The contract for the project was advertised last week, and work is anticipated to start in July and expected to be completed by December.

The work complements regular staff training and evacuation procedures at all primary and secondary schools.
