Unused health items wanted

HEALTH workers are being asked to donate unwanted material to help an aid drive in Romania.

The innovative project, the brainchild of two NHS Lothian staff, sees items such as bandages recycled and taken across to places where they are badly needed.

Nurses Marjory Thrusfield and Ruth Aird take the equipment to a minor injuries clinic in the country.

Other material the pair are looking for include out-of-date dressings, sanitary towels, catheters and drapes, which can all be made good for the locals.

Even old latex gloves, no longer used in the health service, are welcome, although medicines cannot be accepted. The pair said there was likely to be much unused or unwanted supplies and they were able to put it to good use.
