Unlicensed driver caught in M8 swoop

A MOTORIST has been arrested and charged with driving without a licence as part of an ongoing police operation using officers in unmarked vehicles to catch drivers flouting the law.

The 53-year-old man was stopped around 5:15pm on Monday between junctions one and two of the M8 by officers in an unmarked car.

Police initially pulled the man over for alleged mobile phone offences before inquiries revealed a further offence for driving without a licence. The man was set to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

Chief Inspector Bryan Rodgers said: "We will continue to deploy our unmarked vehicles throughout the force area to ensure our roads remain safe for travellers.

"We would again remind motorists that they must always adhere to the laws of the road, and not just when they see a camera or police vehicle."
