University to offer youth work degree

Edinburgh Napier University has announced the launch of Scotland's first BA degree in youth work.

The programme, established in collaboration with Telford College and the city council, is intended to address the need for training amongst Scottish youth workers. It will begin in September.

Rosemary Allford, who is leading the project, hopes it will encourage more people to consider youth work.

She said: "Youth work is an incredibly adaptable and flexible way of working which can often be used to empower young people to think about their lives in a hundred different ways.

"This new course allows us to support and build on the quality youth work taking place in Scotland, in order to strengthen the life chances of its young people."

Initially, the course will take on 20 students from throughout Scotland.
