University in firms record

EDINBURGH University has set the record for the most spin-out companies created at a Scottish university in one year.

In 2009-10, 40 new firms were formed to bring new products and technologies developed at the university on to the market. It takes the total for the last five years up to 131, with more than 85 per cent of the firms still in operation and currently employing 300 people.

The 40 firms formed over the year have secured more than 3 million of funding.
