University faces £35m black hole

Glasgow University is drawing up plans to cut £20 million in annual costs because of a £35m budget shortfall.

The university admitted it needed to raise an additional 15m in additional revenue in a memo to staff

Principal Anton Muscatelli told them that swingeing public sector cuts were expected to see it lose about 8-10 per cent in total income rssulting in a budget shortfall of 35m per year by the end of 2014-15.

However, union chiefs criticised the move claimed the university cuts would be "savage".
