THE United Nations is to open an office in Edinburgh.

UN House Scotland, to be set up in Hunter Square just off the Royal Mile, will focus on raising awareness of the agency’s work including women’s rights, child welfare and climate change.

It will also be used as shared resource centre for people – academics, students and members of the public – interested in projects involving the UN. The shared facility is the first of its kind in the UK.

Gari Donn, convener of the United Nations Association Scotland, one of eight UN-affiliated agencies which will use the centre, said: “By combining our activities under the umbrella of UN House Scotland, we hope to raise public awareness of the work of the UN on issues that concern and, in many cases, directly affect the people of Scotland.”
