Union role for attack student

A STUDENT who was left with a broken jaw in a random attack during a night out is celebrating after becoming the union president of his university.

Blain Murphy, 23, from Portobello, was voted Student Union President by 200 votes alongside co-electee Christine McMonagle at Queen Margaret University.

The pair will take up their post on 10 June.

As reported in the Evening News, Mr Murphy sustained a broken jaw, the left side of which he cannot feel today, when Liam Griffiths, 19, attacked him on North Bridge last July. He was sentenced to nine months in prison.
