Union Canal bid can restore ‘missing link’

RESIDENTS living close to the Union Canal are being urged to show support for moves to restore a “missing link” in 
public access routes.

public access routes.

Green Party members said they have begun canvassing opinion near Yeaman Place on building a path to the canal.

They said there is currently no way of reaching the waterway from Yeaman Place, even though it is one of the area’s busiest streets, and have called locals on to express interest in plans to build an access route. They added that a full campaign could be organised if there was enough support.

Councillor Gavin Corbett, Green member for Fountainbridge and Craiglockhart, said: “The whole plan to regenerate the Fountainbridge site is based on the canal becoming a magnet for the area.

“Part of that process is about ensuring people around Yeaman Place can access the canal, so they can walk or cycle to work.”
