Under the radar

OUR track of the month comes from Glasgow's Aerials Up, who formed under a year ago but have already generated an impressive buzz thanks to support slots with The Futureheads and Snow Patrol; not to mention their multipart harmonies, lush orchestral string arrangements and a powerful folk-rock wall of sound.

The ten-piece have carved out an excellent live reputation and are set to play London's Royal Albert Hall on 9 April, opening for Paolo Nutini. For those who would like to check them out closer to home, they

Meanwhile, fellow west-coasters Schnapps are gearing up for a nice bit of promo to support the release of their jangle-tastic seven-inch AA-sided single, Crossdresser/More To Life than Peach via Glasgow indie label El Rancho Records, to be launched at Glasgow's Avalanche Records on 12 April. The band will also play a free gig at the city's Apple Store on Buchanan Street at 7pm on 8 April. T In The Park has now opened applications for the 16 slots to perform at this year's emerging bands tent, T Break. Dundee working man's pub Dexter's Lounge Bar has started booking more and more shows and has just launched a new series of candlelit acoustic nights. One Dundee insider commented: "Think Later with… Jools Holland, but in Dundee!" The mind boggles. www.myspace.com/dextersbar

Edinburgh-based act Withered hand – one of the wittiest lyricists in Scotland – is set to go on a tour of Europe with the city's resident Icelandic minstrel, Benni Hemm Hemm. Scottish music subscription service Ten Tracks has started hosting one-off DVD extravaganzas, with its first at Verden Studios in Portobello last weekend. The event was filmed across two large rehearsal rooms with an impressive line-up consisting of acts who have signed up to the Ten Tracks service.
