Ukraine mine blast kills 17 workers

A BLAST at a Ukrainian coal mine killed at least 17 miners yesterday, officials said.

Two miners were also injured at the Sukhodilska-Eastern mine in the Luhansk region in the former Soviet republic's coal-mining heartland in the early hours of Friday.

In 2007 more than 100 miners died in a methane gas blast at a nearby mine.
