X Factor is no longer the turn on it used to be

The X Factor’s final viewing figures were down compared with last year, despite performances by some of the biggest names in showbusiness.

Nearly ten million people tuned to ITV in on Sunday as the talent show crowned its youngest winner, Louisa Johnson, 17.

The finale marked the last live performance by One Direction before the band embarks on an extended break. Their fans flooded social media with farewell messages.

Their performance seemed to draw in the 16-34 audience, whose share for the final was up from 44 per cent last year to 48 per cent this year.

However, viewing figures overall peaked at 9.9 million viewers and a 41 per cent share of the audience. Last year’s finale peaked at about 10.5 million viewers.
