World's oldest malt rolled out in Edinburgh

CLAIRE Urquhart, the great-granddaughter of whisky maker John Urquhart, holds a very special decanter of "liquid history" in her hands.

The world's oldest malt whisky went on sale yesterday with a price tag of up to 10,000 a bottle.

The Mortlach 70-year-old Speyside was piped into Edinburgh Castle and sampled by a select group of tasters at a special ceremony.

It was filled into its cask on 15 October, 1938 on the order of John Urquhart. Exactly 70 years later, the decision was made to empty the cask and bottle its contents.
