Wilkinson snaps up prizes in press photography awards

SCOTLAND on Sunday photographer Phil Wilkinson triumphed in two categories at the 2008 First ScotRail Press Photography Awards last week, being named Features Photographer of the Year and winning News Picture of the Year Category for images taken for this newspaper.

The judges described his portfolio as "being of the highest quality with tremendous variation throughout".

He was awarded News Picture of the Year for 'Combat Zone', showing a soldier signalling to a Chinook helicopter at Forward Operating Base 'Edinburgh' in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. And he won Features Photographer of the Year for a portfolio of six images, including the ones shown here.
