Welsh follow the SNP’s lead

PLAID Cymru is considering taking a leaf out of the SNP’s book by changing the English version of its Welsh name to the Welsh National Party.

The new name, with its echoes of the SNP, would replace the current English translation of Plaid Cymru, which is Party of Wales.

A review by party grandees has made the suggestion, which has been welcomed by then former Plaid Cmyru president, Dafydd Iwan.

Mr Iwan agreed with the review’s finding that Plaid Cymru was to often perceived as a party reserved only for Welsh speakers.
