US watches 'the unseemly haggling' with interest

POLITICAL commentators in the US watched with interest as Britain's politicians attempted to form a government.

Patience Wheatcroft wrote in the Wall Street Journal: "The unseemly haggling that has gone on in the UK in recent days as the three main parties tried to cobble together a coalition has not shown political leadership at its finest."

However, the Washington Post's Anne Applebaum thought the British political system worked "beautifully".

She continued: "Politicians who had fought bitterly against one another a few days earlier sat down and did deals."
