Arrest made over Coatbridge death

A 20-YEAR-OLD woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a man in North Lanarkshire.

Sean Martin, 21, from Coatbridge, died in an incident at a flat in Jackson Court in the town at around 1:25am on Saturday.

The woman is expected to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court today. A report has been sent to the procurator-fiscal.

Thousands rush for airline jobs at Virgin

Virgin Atlantic has received more than 3,000 applications for 500 jobs since it launched a cabin crew recruitment drive this month.

The number seeking a job has been so high that Virgin has had to give extra staff to its HR department to cope with the record demand. The jobs will be based at Gatwick and Heathrow airports.

Another £1m crime cash for youth work

A FURTHER £1 million of criminals’ cash will be put back into community youth work projects over the next two years, justice secretary Kenny MacAskill announced yesterday.

This brings the total funds from the proceeds of crime allocated to the CashBack for Communities Youth Work Fund to more than £7.5m.

Prayers said for bus crash death teacher

Special prayers were said yesterday at St Laurence Church in Alvechurch, Worcestershire, for teacher Peter Rippington, who died in a coach crash in France last week. Mr Rippington, 59, died after the bus, carrying school children, flipped on to its side on a motorway embankment.

Madchester takes over V festival

The heady days of “Madchester” will be revisited at this summer’s V Festival with performances from The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays.

They and The Killers headline the event, which runs across two days on sites in Essex and Staffordshire.

Walker on Harris airlifted after fall

A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital in the Outer Hebrides at the weekend. She was part of a group of six walkers who were on a track at Leac a Li on Harris. She fell and sustained a suspected broken ankle. Coastguard teams from Scalpay and Tarbert went to her aid.
