Two killed after light aircraft crashes

TWO people died yesterday after a light aircraft crashed into a field near Andover, Hampshire.

Police were called to the location near the village of Monxton shortly after 5.20pm.

"Police are currently looking to trace the location where the aircraft took off and to determine the identification of the people who died," a spokesman for Hampshire police said last night. "It is too early to say whether ash was a factor but it will form part of the investigation."

The spokesman said he understood light aircraft were allowed to fly at low altitude. He confirmed the light aircraft had come down in an agricultural field without causing any damage to power cables or other structures and away from houses or farm buildings.
