Two arrested after police officer shot

Two men were being held last night in connection with the shooting of an off-duty police officer in Northern Ireland.

The incident happened at about 7:30pm yesterday in the Springhill area of Bangor, Co Down. The officer was grazed in the attack, but not badly hurt. It was not thought the attack was terror related. The two men arrested were aged 45 and 60.

DUP councillor Alex Easton said: “I am deeply shocked that someone has tried to shoot someone in the Bangor area. This is deeply worrying.”
