Tribute to couple killed by Bird

A VILLAGE came to a standstill yesterday to remember a couple murdered by Cumbrian gunman Derrick Bird.

As the clock struck 10:45am, and the hearses carrying the bodies of James and Jennifer Jackson made their way through Egremont's main street to the parish church of St Mary's and St Michael's, villagers bowed their heads as a mark of respect.

Later, another of Bird's victims, Isaac Dixon, 65, a part-time mole catcher, was laid to rest at the same church.

In all, Bird murdered 12 people before turning the gun on himself on 2 June.
