Third of men would give up year to lose beer belly

More than one in three men in Britain would sacrifice a year of their life just to shed their beer belly, according to new research.

A nationwide study found millions of men have serious worries about their figures, and talking about weight, size and body shapes is no longer confined to women.

The research found that men are most unhappy with their stomach size.

The study of British men’s attitudes to their appearance reveals that four in five regularly talk to friends or partners about their bodies and most are unhappy with their lack of muscularity.

The research – a collaboration between experts at the University of the West of England, health charity the Succeed Foundation and Central YMCA – also found more than 35 per cent of men would willingly give up a year of life to achieve an ideal weight or shape.

Four per cent of men even reported making themselves sick to control weight.
