Thieves spoil ring surprise

Two people have been arrested after thieves stole the engagement ring that was part of a man’s plan for a surprise proposal.

Jason Lyon ended up asking Nicola Waites to marry him as they sat in the back of a police van while officers dusted their home in The Wynd, Pelton, County Durham, for prints. Mr Lyon, 20, bought the £330 diamond ring and planned to propose on New Year’s Eve.
