Tests show two teenagers who died had not taken drug

TWO teenagers whose deaths were linked to the "legal high" mephedrone had not taken the drug, it has been confirmed.

After Louis Wainwright, 18, and Nicholas Smith, 19, both from Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, died in March, there was a clamour to ban the drug.

It was made illegal last month, becoming a class B substance, alongside cannabis and amphetamines.

But according to toxicology reports released last night, neither teenager had mephedrone in their blood when they died. More tests are being carried out to establish what, if any, substances the pair had taken.

An inquest will be held at North East Lincolnshire Coroner's Court.

Humberside Police, which is investigating the deaths, originally said it had information to suggest that they were linked to mephedrone.
