Take five – Jessie J leads chase for Mobo awards

Chart-topping star Jessie J leads the field at this year’s Mobo Awards.

The Price Tag singer said her five nominations were “amazing” – she is just ahead of Adele, Wretch 32 and Tinie Tempah who were each shortlisted for four awards last night.

The awards take place at the SECC in Glasgow on 5 October, with US star Jason Derulo among the hosts.

Jessie J is nominated for best newcomer, best UK act, best album, best video and best song.

She said: “I am so honoured to be nominated.

“I have watched so many of the artists I look up to being nominated, winning awards and performing – it’s amazing to be in the company of such amazing talent.”

Adele – who has found global success with her second album 21 – is up against Jessie J for best album, along with Chase & Status, Katy B and Tinie Tempah.

The prize for best song will be fought out between Wretch 32, Adele, Tinie Tempah, Jessie J and Chase & Status.

Mobo founder Kanya King said: “We are very pleased with the level of this year’s nominees, including many emerging artists, some who have come from backgrounds where they haven’t been given a foot in the door, so to speak.”
