Suspected bomb on beach is blown up by Army

An EXPLOSIVE device found on a beach near a holiday resort in Norfolk has been safely blown up, coastguards said yesterday.

A member of the public raised the alarm afternoon after spotting something wedged into a metal sea defence on the beach at Hopton.

Coastguards from Lowestoft and Gorleston were sent to inspect the device, found near Potters Holiday Centre. An Army bomb disposal team X-rayed the object and found it contained explosives. They carried out a controlled explosion at low tide, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said.
