Students attempt to avoid tuition fees

THERE have been renewed calls for the Scottish Government to clear up the confusion surrounding tuition fees after it emerged that Northern Ireland applicants are claiming Irish citizenship to avoid paying.

It was claimed yesterday that a fifth of applicants from Northern Ireland to Dundee University are attempting to avoid fees in this way.

Under new arrangements being brought in later this year, students from England, Northern Ireland and Wales will pay up to £9,000 a year in fees, while students from Scotland and elsewhere in the EU will remain exempt.
