Stanley Matthews' boots to be sold

THE muddy boots worn by football legend Stanley Matthews in the 1953 FA Cup final are to go under the hammer this week.

The leather boots, which were made at Heckmondwike footwear company Goliath, will be up for auction as a combined lot valued at more than 8,000.

Matthews, who in 1964 became the first professional footballer to be knighted, had an illustrious footballing career with Blackpool, Stoke City and England. Renowned for his dribbling skills, he led Blackpool to a 4-3 victory over Bolton Wanderers in the match which was dubbed The Matthews Final.

He died in 2000 aged 85.
