Soldier shot dead by insurgents in Helmand
A BRITISH soldier has been killed in Afghanistan.
The soldier, from 2nd Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles, was shot dead in the Nahr-e Saraj region of Helmand province on Saturday. His next of kin have been informed.
Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon Mackenzie said: “While protecting a checkpoint, his team came under insurgent fire, during which he received a fatal gunshot wound.”
The death takes to 383 the number of British troops and MoD civilians killed in Afghanistan since 2001.
