Sofa so good – until Next dashes bargain

High street giant Next has apologised for having to cancel orders after the cost of sofas was shown wrongly to internet customers.

A report said a pair of sofas worth £1,198 was listed on its website at just £98.

Internet shoppers were delighted when they discovered the blunder. The pricing error remained uncorrected for nearly six hours and was spotted by keen-eyed users of consumer websites.

Online customers said they had bought two Rochelle sofas for just £98, plus delivery charges, and the money had been debited from their bank accounts, leading those involved to believe they would be getting the “deal of the century”, the report said.

The company said in a statement: “This was a genuine and unfortunate error, which we corrected as quickly as possible.

“According to our standard terms and conditions, we reserve the right to cancel an order at any time prior to dispatch.”
