SNP MP Amy Callaghan discharged from hospital after suffering brain haemorrhage

SNP MP Amy Callaghan was discharged from hospital on Thursday.

The MP for East Dunbartonshire – who has been receiving treatment since June after suffering a brain haemorrhage – thanked her “second family” of medics after she left the hospital.

Posting on Twitter, Ms Callaghan wrote: “After four months in hospital, today I've been discharged. I'm coming home.

“To the miracle team at @NHSGGC PDRU – now my second family – thank you. I can never, ever repay you.

“I was wheeled in here. Now I'm walking out. I'm just getting started too.”

The 28-year-old, who has previously fought cancer, was elected to the House of Commons in December after ousting the then Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson from her East Dunbartonshire seat.

Among those wishing her well as she left hospital was SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon.

The First Minister retweeted her tweet writing: “Best news of the day. Sending love.”
