Sarah Everard: Human remains confirmed as those of missing woman

Human remains that were found by police searching for Sarah Everard, who disappeared after walking home in south London last week, have been confirmed as hers by Metropolitan Police

Speaking to reporters outside Scotland Yard, Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave said the body found in a woodland in Kent was that of Sarah Everard.

He said: "As you know, on Wednesday evening detectives investigating the disappearance of Sarah Everard discovered a body secreted in woodland in Kent.

"The body has now been recovered and formal identification procedure has now been undertaken.

"I can now confirm that it is the body of Sarah Everard."

A serving Met Police officer remains in custody after being arrested on suspicion of Ms Everard’s kidnap and murder.

Sarah, 33, was last seen on March 3 in Clapham, south London, on her way home from a friend's house.

The family of Sarah Everard described her as a "shining example to us all" and said she "brought so much joy to our lives."
