Rory McIlroy settles Horizon Management court case

RORY McIlroy can get back to concentrating on his bid to complete golf’s career ‘Grand Slam’ after a court case against his former management company was settled today.

A statement released just after 11am revealed the row over contracts between McIlroy and Horizon Management had been resolved following overnight discussions.

The case at the High Court in Dublin was deferred after just 42 seconds yesterday following a request by Mcilroy’s lawyers, fuelling hopes that agreement could be reached without the case progressing.

In a joint-statement, the two parties confirmed this morning that the dispute had been settled “to the satisfaction of both parties”.

It added: “We wish each other well for the future. The parties will be making no further comment.”

McIlroy was not in court this morning, although he did appear briefly yesterday.

The golfer had complained that fees charged by Horizon were excessive. The Dublin firm counter-sued for outstanding fees, alleging breaches of contract.

McIlroy, who cemented his position as world No 1 by winning the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday, will now head to America to prepare for the start of his 2015 PGA campaign.

His first appearance on the US circuit this season will be in the Honda Classic in three weeks’ time.

The 25-year-old will join an elite band of players to win all four of golf’s majors if he can land the US Masters title at Augusta in April.
