Rochdale grooming trial: Profiles of the gang

NINE men, all members of the gang, were convicted of various offences.

Abdul Aziz Taxi driver, 41, found guilty of conspiracy and trafficking for sexual exploitation, but cleared of two counts of rape. The married father of three took over from the 59-year-old as the main trafficker, and was being paid to supply girls for sex. Known as “Tariq”, “Car 40” and “Master”.

Adil Khan Married with one child, he was known as “Billy” to the girls and fathered the child of a 13-year-old victim who believed she was in love with him. The baby was aborted and Khan denied even knowing the girl until police presented him with DNA evidence that proved the child was his.

Abdul Qayyum Found guilty of conspiracy. He was a driver for Streamline Taxis in Middleton, and was known as “Tiger”. He is married with two children. He said he had just started a breakdown recovery business when he was arrested. Two councillors praised him as “hard working”.

Hamid Safi The illegal immigrant, 22, was found guilty of conspiracy and trafficking but cleared of two counts of rape. Known as “Hamid”, “Hammy” or “Goofy”, he sneaked into the UK on a lorry in 2008. He claims to have fled Afghanistan because his uncle was murdered by the Taleban.

Mohammed Sajid Found guilty of conspiracy, trafficking, one count of rape and one of sexual activity with a child. Known as “Saj”, he would ply girls with alcohol before having sex with them at his flat, where groups of men would “pass around” the girls. Sajid said he was born in Pakistan.

Mohammed Amin The 44-year-old was found guilty of conspiracy and sexual assault. He was a driver for Eagle Taxis for 14 years and was known as “Car Zero”. He is married with school-age children.

Unnamed The man regarded as the ringleader was a 59-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons. The man, from Oldham, used the older girl, “the Honeymonster”, to procure young girls for him and his friends. He was separated from his wife in 2000 and has grown-up children.

Kabeer Hassan Found guilty of conspiracy and rape. Known to the girls as “Immy”, Hassan, who is married, worked at the Tasty Bites and the Balti House. He raped the first victim, aged 15, after the 59-year-old ordered her to have sex with Hassan as a “treat” for his birthday.

Abdul Rauf Found guilty of conspiracy and trafficking for sexual exploitation. A taxi driver who worked for Castleton Taxis, he was known as “Castleton” and “Cassie”. A married father of five, Rauf said he worked as a religious studies teacher at a local mosque.
