Red Nose Day: Record £75m raised

Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day charity telethon raised a record £75,107,851 last night.

The figure was announced by comedian Russell Brand at around 1:30am, after a night of special programmes on BBC One.

Singer Jessie J had her trademark locks shaved off, and the Price Tag star unveiled her new look live on the charity extravaganza, which is in its 25th year.

The drastic change from her usual look, below, raised more than £500,000. Earlier, comedy actress Miranda Hart turned wedding planner as she was challenged with arranging a real-life marriage ceremony in a matter of hours.

The Call The Midwife star was busy – she also put together a dog show and performed a Strictly Come Dancing routine.

She was informed of her stunt to plan the entire event for Claire Gilchrist, 26 and Ben Pringett, 28, during a broadcast on Radio 2 by Chris Evans. Hart responded: “A real wedding? I’m going to ruin it.” But she even got comedy pals Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders to be bridesmaids.
