Queen opens command centre for British forces

THE Queen will today open a new military building for staff co-ordinating the efforts of UK forces in Afghanistan.

The monarch, who is head of the Armed Forces, will tour the new home of the Permanent Joint Headquarters which is responsible for planning and co-ordinating all overseas operations. The military building in Northwood, London, is part of a complex undergoing a 150 million redevelopment programme due for completion in late 2011.
