Public wants PR voting system, claims survey

VOTERS overwhelmingly want proportional representation, a poll showed today as it suggested support for the coalition is holding.

Some 78 per cent of people agreed the UK's first-past-the-post voting system should be replaced with a set-up that "reflects more accurately the proportion of votes cast for each party", said the ComRes survey. The poll put the Tories on 37 per cent, with Labour down one on 33 per cent and the Lib Dems on 21 per cent.
