Public invited to share memories with monarch

The public is being invited to share photos, videos and other memories of the Queen’s 60 years on the throne to create an online gallery in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee.

The project, by Google and non-profit initiative Historypin, will create an interactive archive of the Queen’s visits and jubilee celebrations over six decades, to which it is hoped people around the world will contribute.

The collection has been boosted by photographs of items from the Royal Archives and the Royal Collection.

Contributions from Buckingham Palace include a map showing the air routes for the royal visit to South Australia during the 1953-4 Commonwealth Tour, an image of an earthenware vase presented to the Queen by the prime minister of Japan in 1975 and a photo of a sitar presented to her during her visit to India in 1997. Also included are a collection of images from the Queen’s overseas trips.

It is hoped people from across the generations will share photographs, videos and other materials featured in her visits, from her 1953 Coronation celebrations to her Golden Jubilee in 2002. Material can be uploaded to the site at www.historypin.com/DiamondJubilee/
