£2m grant saves archive of 'immense importance'

AN ARCHIVE of "immense historical importance" chronicling political events which shaped Britain at the end of the 19th century has been saved with a £2 million grant.

The future of the Broadlands Archive, which contains 4,500 boxes of official papers and personal correspondence from major figures in the Victorian era, has been secured thanks to funding from the National Heritage Memorial Fund. The collection includes papers of prime minister Lord Palmerston.
