Thomas van Straubenzee, 30, is marrying Lady Melissa Percy, 26, who is the Duke of Northumberland’s second daughter, in the parish church next to her family’s ancestral home in Alnwick on Saturday.

The groom is a long-time friend of both William and Harry, and the brothers were at the chartered surveyor’s London stag do earlier this month.

Mr van Straubenzee travelled to New Zealand with William on a gap year and he was reportedly on the phone to Harry when he was mugged in London last year.

It was said that Harry alerted police and went out to find his friend after the ordeal.

There was no official confirmation that the brothers would attend, with wedding organisers refusing to discuss the matter. Work commitments may mean they cannot be there.

There was also speculation that the Duchess of Cambridge may attend, although she is due to give birth next month.

The bride will leave Alnwick Castle, which has doubled as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films, in a 200-year-old horse-drawn carriage.
