Poor response fear over rising crises

BRITAIN faces an increase in severe weather events, financial crises, and data security lapses, according to a major insurer.

Zurich also forecast a rise in strikes over the next five years. Its report was based on a survey of 120 chief executives or directors of public organisations including in health, education and local government. More than half said their ability to deal with a major incident could be hit by a lack of finances. Around half said their financial reserves will be drained over the next three years.

Anne Torry, managing director at Zurich Municipal, said: “Our research shows that many are being forced to dip into their reserves just to continue delivering core front-line services. This means there will be little spare cash to draw on if disaster strikes.”
