Pay gender gap widest at 50+

WOMEN in their fifties earn almost a fifth less than men of the same age.

A study by the TUC found full-time women workers in their fifties earned an average of just under £12 an hour, compared with £14.69 for men.

Women in their fifties also earn less than those in their thirties, says the report, published ahead of new pay and unemployment figures today. The TUC said half of women in their fifties were in part-time jobs, with most earning less than £10,000 a year.
