Over half of voters ‘want SNP in UK coalition’

MORE than half of voters think the SNP should be able to join a UK-wide coalition government in the event of a hung parliament in May, according to a poll.

Research by ComRes for the Daily Mail found that 57 per cent of people would back such a move, with 37 per cent opposed to it and 6 per cent saying they did not know.

In the event of such an outcome in the general election, 55 per cent said they would not want the SNP to make decisions on laws that do not have an impact on Scotland.

More than a third (38 per cent) thought the party should be allowed to take decisions on English laws. while 7 per cent did not know.

ComRes interviewed 1,004 adults by telephone between February 20 and 23.

Data was weighted to represent all adults in Britain, and by past vote recall.
