Only existing diary of a Battle of Britain pilot is published

A secret diary written by a pilot in the Battle of Britain has been published.

George Barclay, the author of the diary, was called up to fight for Britain in 1939 at the age of 20. He was trained as a fighter pilot, and flew Spitfires and Hurricaines in the Battle of Britain. Barclay’s remarkable story tells how he survived being shot down three times during his service, and gives details of the sweeps over France.

This diary is believed to be the only one of its kind, as no other pilot from either side of the war kept a diary during the battle. Mr. Barclay’s writing serves as a powerful account of life during wartime. It is a harrowing portrayal of the reality of life as a fighter pilot in 1940-41.
