Northumbria Police officers ‘not to blame for death’

A POLICE chief has offered condolences to the family of a man who died in custody, but said he is confident his officers are not at fault.

The 34-year-old was arrested by Northumbria Police for being drunk and taken to a police station in South Tyneside at 8:25pm on Friday. He died in hospital at 11:45pm after being found not breathing in his cell.
