Gallagher also said that he didn’t “get” the 25-year-old’s music, saying: “Emeli Sandé? That is f*****g music for grannies. I don’t get it.”

The High Flying Birds frontman also launched a tirade against singer-songwriter Paloma Faith, saying: “You look at the ‘best’ now. Paloma Faith, do me a favour. Who’s f****** decided she’s a star?”

Sandé took to Twitter with her riposte, saying “Thanks Noel,” attaching a picture of an elderly woman making a gesture with her middle finger.

The Sunderland-born singer won Brit Awards for best female and best album last month, staving off competition from Amy Winehouse, Mumford & Sons, Alt-J and Plan B.
