No action over ‘right hook’

A VETERAN councillor and grandmother who was investigated by police for allegedly punching a mayor in the face has been told she will not face further action.

Marjorie Simpson was accused by Jason Hadlow, Conservative chairman of Yarm Town Council in Teesside, of landing a “right hook” when they clashed in the council chamber over parking charges last month.

The grandmother-of-two, who sits as an independent, insisted she had only tried to push Mr Hadlow away, acting in self defence. A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Police have confirmed that no further action will be taken.”
